HydraFacial – Why You Need to Try it

As someone that loves all things beauty and skin related, I still can’t believe I waited so long to have a hydrafacial done. I always try to keep my skin care regimen short and simple so in my mind, I tell myself I should get facials on a regular basis. Unfortunately, I haven’t been making time for it but on my birthday, my husband surprised me with a gift certificate for a hydrafacial at a local med-spa in our area. Last week, I was finally able to put it to use (almost four months later) and I must say, I am hooked and I know you will be too!

What is a HydraFacial

A hydrafacial is a medical grade device that that uses a vortex suction that will cleanse your skin, extract debris and infuse serums into your skin. The process takes approximately 45 minutes and is virtually painless. The cost can vary anywhere from $150 – $200+. The hydrafacial can help with fine lines, elasticity, skin texture, enlarged pores, oily or congested skin and brown spots. It doesn’t matter if you have dry skin, oily skin or acne prone skin. Basically, it’s great for all skin types. The hydrafacial can be customized to address any specific skin concerns one may have. There is no downtime whatsoever as this is a non-invasive treatment.

My Experience

I showed up to my appointment bare faced with only mascara on. You can have makeup on if you’re going after work or any event that you would normally have makeup on for because the aesthetician or nurse will start with cleansing the skin by hand. The RN that worked on my skin completed a thorough cleanse by hand and then began with the treatment. She used a tool that resembled a large pen with a suction tip to prep my skin and exfoliate it. I would compare that part to a peel. Next, she switched the tip and began suctioning the debris from my skin. It felt like a vacuum suction except it was removing blackheads and other impurities from my skin. There was absolutely no pain, just slight pressure from the suction. Next, she used another tip that pumped serums into my skin which are loaded with peptides and antioxidants. At the end, she showed me the results which was sort of gross and cool at the same time. You can see from the photo above all the yellow water from suctioning the debris from skin. What you can’t see in the photo are the other little particles floating around but trust me, they are there. Afterwards, she applied an additional serum, moisturizer, sunblock and a lip treatment.

Left: before Right: after

Immediately following the hydrafacial I noticed my skin was a little pink but that wore off after about fifteen minutes. The result was my skin feeling hydrated, plump, glowing and very clean. You can see a before and after photo above. The photo was taken with my Samsung phone and the lighting isn’t great, but the difference is quite visible. I loved the way my skin looked and felt after the hydrafacial however, I probably wouldn’t get one on a regular basis. Because of the cost, I would likely only get a hydrafacial bfore a special occasion. If you’re looking to have facials monthly, which is recommended for great skin health, there are plenty out there that range from $45 – $60, keeping most budgets in check.
