Mother’s Day Gift Guide – Quarantine Edition

Mother’s Day will be celebrated in the U.S. on Sunday, May 10th to honor our mothers and maternal figures in our lives. This Mother’s Day will be different for many, no doubt because the majority of us are sheltering in place. Even though there won’t be outings to take her on and places to see, there are still plenty of ways to show your love and appreciation for the woman that sacrificed the most for you. The traditional breakfast in bed is a sweet gesture but if you’re quarantined separately, it may not be possible this year. You can still get together with Mom virtually and add a special touch with my one of my suggestions below.

Write Her Something Heartfelt

Messages of gratitude and words from the heart can speak much louder than any material object. Don’t get me wrong, receiving gifts is always nice but there is something extra special about expressing your feelings and letting mom know how much you appreciate her. This year on Voicebowl, we’re giving our readers a chance to do just that. Visit Voicebowl’s Instagram or Facebook page to find out how you can have your meaningful words featured in an upcoming published article.

Shop Local

There are many small businesses struggling to stay afloat in these times so if you’re planning on buying mom something special, start with your local shops and boutiques. Many of them are offering online shopping with in store pickup so you don’t have to worry about delivery times. From clothing boutiques to unique soaps and jewelry stores, you can typically find family owned shops in your downtown area.

Keep it Cozy

Is anyone wearing real clothes? Give mom the gift of comfiness by giving her cozy pajamas or a pair of fluffy slippers and robe. A cute jogger set makes a great gift too since she can lounge at home comfortably or wear it in public for that grocery store run. Another great gift idea is a silk or satin pillowcase set that feels luxurious and great for her hair.

Handmade Gifts

Don’t be intimidated to get crafty. If you’d prefer to avoid online shopping, make Mom something she’ll cherish like a photo frame with a special photograph she can reminisce about. Accompany it with a fancy handmade card. I’ve linked a YouTube video here for some ideas.

Something Personalized

I have personally always loved to be gifted something personalized. There are so many beautiful things out there like a bracelet with her children’s initials on it, or a necklace that ties back to her hometown. Other ideas could be to get her something related to her birthstone or zodiac sign. You can find many customizable items made by small business and artists on Etsy.

A few other ideas are preparing her favorite meal and delivering it to her with some flowers or getting her a gift certificate to her favorite salon. Businesses will eventually reopen and things will go back to “normal” but for the time being, I hope that you can find some way to make mom feel special. I’d love to hear some of your ideas as well!
