Sweat Proof Makeup for Summer

Summertime brings sunshine, vacations and lazy days. Somehow, during summer you find more time to spend with friends and family, swimming at the beach or at backyard barbecues. I live in southern California and there is definitely no shortage of fun activities to do during the summer. Of course, summer also brings blazing heat, humidity and makes us sweaty. As much as I love summertime, the only thing that bothers me is getting so hot, that my makeup feels like it’s melting off! There are several steps you can include in your beauty regimen that will keep your makeup looking fresh day and night. Let’s dive into the products that will help keep your makeup in place, even when you start to feel those beads of sweat dripping down your forehead.

Primer

The most important product you’ll need this summer is primer. A good primer should feel somewhat tacky so that your next step, foundation, will adhere to your skin and keep your makeup form sliding around. A couple of my favorites for any skin type, are MAC Prep + Prime Skin Base Visage and Tatcha, The Silk Canvas. Both are smooth, easy to apply and will help keep your makeup lasting all day long.

Long wear foundation

Choosing a medium to full coverage foundation is the way to go. Sure, they can be thicker and feel a bit heavier on the skin, but the goal is long lasting makeup, right? The key is not to over do it. Start out with a minimal amount of foundation and build in the areas you need more coverage. Try Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation or something with SPF like MAC Studio Fix Fluid for optimal coverage.

Setting Powder and Setting Spray

It’s important to set your makeup with powder because the powder helps to absorb excess oils on our skin and keep us shine free. It can even take away that sticky feeling when your face gets too hot. There are plenty of great setting powders out there but if you have dry skin like me, I recommend the Hourglass Veil Translucent Setting Powder. After you’re done with your makeup, don’t forget to spritz your face with a great setting spray. My favorites are Urban Decay All-Nighter Long Lasting Spray and Makeup Forever Mist & Fix.

Brow pomade

Skip the brow pencils and brow powders this summer. A brow gel or pomade is your best option because they last long and are waterproof (just don’t rub your brows too hard). My absolute favorite is Anastasia Beverly Hills Dipbrow Pomade. You can find them in a variety of shades options.

Waterproof gel liner

Personally, I would skip eyeliner during summer but if you can’t live without a cat eye or sharp winged liner, use a gel liner instead of a liquid liner. Inglot gel liner in #77 is waterproof and won’t budge throughout the day.

Blotting paper

If you start to feel sweaty or a bit oily, don’t reach for your powder first. You’ll want to gently pat the sweat beads with a paper towel and use blotting paper to absorb any excess oil. Clean & Clear Oil Absorbing Sheets work great. For a reusable option, check out Beauty Blender’s Bloterazzi Pro.

Some other great products to consider this summer are waterproof mascara if you’re doing any water activities and a lip stain instead of traditional lipstick for longer wear without needing to reapply every so often. Let me know if you try any of these tips or products and how they work out for you. I’d love to hear any additional tips you have for keeping your makeup lasting long during the summer heat.
