Makeup Mistakes to Avoid

Getting your makeup to look perfect is usually easier said than done. Beautifully applied makeup can take upwards of an hour if not two hours! If you don’t have the time to spend hours in front of the mirror, then keep reading for my tips on makeup mistakes to avoid. Applying your makeup the right way will save you the time and hassle of having to remove and reapply your makeup.

Skin Hydration

Having smooth skin is always the primary goal when applying makeup. That’s why it’s important to always start with moisturizer (and eye cream). If your skin looks patchy or flaky, chances are you didn’t moisturize well. Moisturizer isn’t just for people with dry skin either. Even if your skin is oily, it still needs to be properly hydrated. Just look for a moisturizer specially designed for oily skin.

Cakey Concealer

Concealer is probably the number one makeup product I can’t live without. It disguises the appearance of how tired I am on most days. Applying too much concealer however, can make you look older. Too much concealer can end up looking cakey and draw attention to fine lines or wrinkles. It’s always best to start with a small amount, blend it in, then add more if needed.

Mascara Mistakes

Mascara can make your eyes appear open and livelier. Getting an even coat is the key here. Applying too many coats can make your lashes clumpy. The best way to achieve an even amount is to apply one layer, wait a few seconds for it to dry, then apply a second coat. If you feel you need more than two coats, its probably time to change out your mascara tube. Remember to apply mascara to your lower lashes for a doll-eye look.

Blotchy  Bronzer

Bronzer can give your skin that sun kissed look when applied properly. A lot of times, the appearance of blotchy bronzer can happen from using a shade that’s too dark for your skin or too orange. Just like concealer, less is more. You should always start off lightly because you can always go back and layer the product if you need a bit more. Using a large fluffy brush with your powder bronzer is the way to go.

Eyebrow Shambles

Eyebrows shape and frame our face but unfortunately, we weren’t all born with full and fluffy brows. Whether you only need to fill in sparse areas or have to draw your brows on completely, the thing remember is to use a light hand. Going in heavy handed can make your brows look like they were drawn on with a sharpie. Remember to make hair-like strokes instead straight sharp lines.

Eyeliner Anguish

Getting that perfect cat eye liner is no easy feat… after all, winged liner can smell fear. Okay, maybe it can’t really smell fear but that doesn’t make it any easier. If you want a thin and elongated line, don’t stretch the skin near your eye. Doing so will actually make your eyeliner too thick. The key here is to look down when applying your eyeliner. If you close your eye completely it will cause your eyelid to wrinkle up and you won’t end up with a straight line across your lower lid. Also, never use a dried out gel liner. It will make your liner appear uneven and patchy.

Eye Shadow Blending Blunders

Creating any eye shadow look can be time consuming so it’s important you blend properly to get the best results. Using the right tools and taking the time to blend your colors together deliver the best results. You don’t need more than 3 brushes to get beautiful results. As long as you have a large blending brush, small blending brush and synthetic flat brush, you can create an endless number of looks. Remember to use a combination circular motions and window wiper motions when blending.
